OK SO here’s the shimmy:
HARRY POTTER: THE TELEVISION SERIES
BASICS
- Produced by the BBC (duh tbqh)
- Each book = a season
- Book = 4 episodes (6 for the later books, potentially seven for OOTP)
- End of DH in two (or three?) Doctor Who-like specials
- Unknowns cast as the kids again
- BBC vets and theatre actors for the adults
- Completely new sets for Hogwarts - in fact, they’d use all new sets for everything to differentiate from the movies
REALLY SPECIFIC SHIT TO DO WITH PLOTLINES AND STUFF
- EXPANDED POV’S! If HP was a tv show we’re taken away from the restrictions of films, which really need to stick to one plotline. Tv shows can build on and expand a universe - for instance, we could jump to Voldie more often in the later books/include stuff from Pottermore/new info about characters
- INCLUSION OF SUBPLOTS. We’re talking SPEW. We’re talking Ludo Bagman. All of it.
- More Quidditch! They’d obviously need a huge budget, but in all seriousness if HP is ever made into a tv series I would imagine it would be one of the most expensive ever
- A Hogwarts more like the concept art - as it would be a tv show, the cinematography would be completely different, and I think they’d be able to convery a ~richer Potter world than the one in the films.
THINGS I’D CHANGE FROM THE MOVIES
- Horcrux explanation. Because it was, uh, virtually non existent.
- When the series would get to POA, I’d make a 90 minute episode for the latter half so the Marauder backstroy and its significance could be compeltely explored. It’s a tv show and they don’t care about action - what they want is something engrossing, and what makes POA is the MWPP backstory.
- Ron. It’s not even GIVE RON A BIGGER ROLE~~~!!~! Just give him the characterisation and development he gets in the books - the Ron who jokes around in Divination and who most certainly did not sit in the background in every significant trio scene while Harry and Hermione waxed poetical.
- Keep the ambiguity of Snape. In the movies you’re really led down the HE’S GOOD1!! path, and in the books it was really quite up in the air and one of the most debated topics between HBP and DH.
- More scenes of Harry just in school! I get that it’s easy to cut scenes of him and Ron bumming around at the back of Transfiguration, but the easiness of how well he fits in at Hogwarts and the strange normacly he finds there are really key to Harry as a character, and I think that’s sort of carried in the movies because the responder is also charmed by the idea of Hogwarts, but some textual backup for that would be awesome.

- Full Snape’s Worst Memory
- complete redoing of the back ends of OOTP, POA and HBP
- inclusion of all the Dursley scenes, especially the one where Dudley’s tounge grows like, a foot
- More OOTP Sirius
- Extended Quidditch World Cup
- HBP pensieve scenes
- Centuar subplot
- uhhh just lots of book scenes i suppose lmao
RANDOM SHIT
- Some throwbacks to the movies! I’d like if they kept the dance in DH (or something like it), the R/Hr handgrab and the Seamus-blows-stuff-up joke.
- Maybe the movie actors throwing in a few cameos? I can totally see Danradical being like YEAH, I’LL PLAY PROFESSOR KETTLEBURN! WHY NOT?
- the fandom for this show would be a thing of terror and fear
